The Jammu and Srinagar Smart City Limited (JSCL) has reported that projects worth ₹2,800 crore are currently under implementation across both cities under the Central Government’s Smart Cities Mission. The mission aims to transform both cities with modern infrastructure and digital services.
In Jammu, key projects include the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) at Gandhi Nagar, adaptive traffic management system covering 200 intersections, solid waste management with GPS-tracked vehicles, and a smart bus fleet of 50 electric buses.
Srinagar’s smart city projects include riverfront development at Dal Lake, heritage conservation of Old City, a new multi-level parking complex at Lal Chowk, underground cabling in the city centre, and free Wi-Fi zones at 100 locations.
The Smart City initiative has already benefited residents through a 24×7 helpline, the JK Smart City mobile app for civic services, LED streetlighting covering 95% of city roads, and an integrated emergency response system.
The projects are expected to be completed by December 2027. The J&K government has also received an additional grant of ₹500 crore from the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for accelerated implementation.
