The 49th Annual Athletic Championship and Sports Meet of the University of Jammu concluded at the Sports Complex, JU Campus. The 3-day event saw participation from over 2,000 students representing 38 colleges and departments affiliated to the University.
The Department of Physical Education (DPE) bagged the overall champions trophy for the 4th consecutive year, winning 42 gold, 28 silver, and 35 bronze medals. The runner-up trophy went to the Department of Computer Science with 15 gold medals.
Medal Highlights:
• 100m Sprint (Men): Vikas Kumar, B.Tech CSE, 10.8s (New JU Record)
• Long Jump (Women): Priya Sharma, B.Sc. Botany, 5.82m
• 1500m Run (Men): Imran Chaudhary, M.A. Urdu, 4:12
• Shot Put (Women): Kavita Gupta, MBA, 11.8m
Cash prizes of ₹10,000 (Gold), ₹7,000 (Silver), and ₹5,000 (Bronze) were distributed to individual event winners. Team event winners received trophies and certificates.
Students who won medals at the JU Sports Meet will be considered for J&K University Sports Council competitions and may represent J&K in All India Inter-University Sports Meet. Contact the DPE for further information.
