J&K Government Order: NPS to OPS Transition — What It Means for Government Employees

J&K Government order on NPS to OPS transition for government employees. Know eligibility, application deadline, how pension will be calculated, and how JU employees are affected.

The J&K Government has issued an official order regarding the transition from the New Pension Scheme (NPS) to the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) for government employees who joined service before January 1, 2010, and were incorrectly enrolled in NPS. This follows several court directives on the matter.

Under this order, affected employees will have the option to migrate back to OPS (also called the Defined Benefit Pension System). Those opting for OPS must apply through the Finance Department by December 31, 2026.

Employees who choose to remain in NPS will continue with all NPS benefits. Those migrating to OPS will have their NPS contributions transferred to a Government Pension Fund, and monthly pension will be calculated as 50% of last drawn basic pay after 20 years of qualifying service.

For University of Jammu regular employees who are affected by this order, the Finance Section of JU will hold a guidance session on October 10, 2026, at the Convention Hall. Employees must carry their service books and NPS account statements.
