The J&K Cyber Police have issued an advisory warning students about a surge in online examination fraud cases ahead of the major recruitment and entrance examination season. Fraudsters are targeting students with fake “exam paper leaks”, “result manipulation” and “guaranteed selection” scams.
In 2026, over 340 complaints related to online exam fraud have been reported in J&K alone, with students losing a combined ₹2.3 crore to scammers. The fraud typically involves promising exam paper access, guaranteed marks, or result changes in exchange for money.
Common Scams to Watch Out For:
• WhatsApp/Telegram groups offering “leaked” question papers for ₹5,000-₹50,000
• Fake websites mimicking JKBOSE, JKSSB, or JU that charge registration fees
• Calls from people claiming to be board officials asking for “processing fees”
• Social media ads for “result guarantee” services
How to Stay Safe:
• Only visit official .nic.in, .ac.in, or .gov.in websites
• Never pay money for “paper access” — all legitimate information is free
• Report suspicious messages to 1930 (Cyber Crime Helpline)
• Verify results only through official board websites
Students who have been defrauded can file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in or call the Jammu Cyber Police Station at 0191-2577333. Report suspicious Telegram channels or WhatsApp groups to the police for investigation.
