The University of Jammu presented its annual Research Excellence Awards 2026 at a function held in the Convention Hall, JU Campus. The awards recognize outstanding research contributions by faculty members across all disciplines for the year 2025-26.
This year, 28 faculty members received awards in categories including Best Research Publication, Most Citations, Best Patent, Best-Funded Research Project, and Young Researcher Award (for faculty under 40 years of age).
Award Winners (Selected):
• Best Research Publication: Prof. Ravi Kumar (Physics) for quantum computing research published in Nature Physics
• Young Researcher Award: Dr. Aisha Mir (Chemistry) for her work on biodegradable polymers
• Best Patent: Prof. S.K. Gupta (Electronics) for a low-cost water purification device
JU has seen a 40% increase in research publications indexed in Scopus and Web of Science over the last 2 years. The university has also secured 18 new research projects funded by DST, DBT, ICSSR, and UGC with a total grant of ₹12.5 crore.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Umesh Rai emphasized the importance of translational research that benefits society directly, and announced a new “Innovation to Startup” program that will help researchers patent and commercialize their discoveries.
