The University Grants Commission mandates that all PhD theses submitted after 2018 must be uploaded to Shodhganga — India’s national repository of doctoral theses — within 30 days of thesis submission. Here is a complete guide for JU PhD scholars on how to comply with this requirement.
Shodhganga is maintained by the INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, and currently hosts over 6.5 lakh PhD theses from universities across India. JU has contributed over 4,200 theses to Shodhganga as of 2026.
Step-by-Step Guide to Upload on Shodhganga:
1. Register at shodhganga.inflibnet.ac.in
2. Your supervisor must approve your account
3. Upload the thesis in PDF format (each chapter as separate file)
4. Fill metadata including keywords, abstract, and research methodology
5. Get a UGC ID assigned to your thesis
A thesis must be submitted in anti-plagiarism format. JU uses Urkund/iThenticate for plagiarism checking. The similarity index should be below 10% for acceptance. The library provides free access to Urkund for all enrolled PhD scholars.
The National Institutional Repository, JU’s internal repository, also hosts conference papers, research articles, and working papers by JU faculty and students. Contact the Library Information and Technology Section at [email protected] for assistance.
