The University of Jammu has formally inaugurated its new Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, making it one of the first universities in the J&K region to offer dedicated AI programs at the postgraduate level. The department will offer M.Tech (AI & Data Science), M.Sc. (Data Science), and a Certificate Course in Machine Learning from the 2026-27 academic session.
The department has been set up with support from the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) and features a state-of-the-art AI lab with 50 high-performance workstations, GPU clusters for deep learning, and licensed software including MATLAB, R Studio, and Python analytics tools.
The M.Tech program is a 2-year full-time program with 60 seats. Admission is through GATE score with a minimum GATE score of 400 required. The M.Sc. program has 40 seats and admission is through CUET PG 2026.
Faculty Highlights: The department has recruited 8 full-time faculty members, including 4 with PhD from IITs and 2 with international research experience in USA and Germany.
The first batch will begin classes from November 1, 2026. Students admitted to the department will also have access to JU’s existing computing labs and the Central Library’s digital resources.
