The department produced 42 Ph.D's, 150 M.Phil's and over 240 research papers which have been published in International and National journals of repute. The department has 5 scholarships for Ph. D. students and 2 scholarships for M.Phil. students. Several research scholars are currently working towards their Ph.D. or M.Phil.
On the basis of academic performance of the department, the National Board of Higher Mathematics (Dept. of Atomic Energy) has been giving generous library grants to the department every year for purchase of books and back volumes of journals. This has helped the department in building a very good departmental library.
NBHM has also instituted two Scholarships for the Ist year Post-Graduate students and also two scholarship for the 2nd year PG students.
Most of the faculty members have visited foreign countries on various academic activities.
The department received a generous grant for starting courses in computational Mathematics. A computer lab. was created with this fund.
Major Research Projects sponsored by UGC have also been completed successfully by faculty members.
Besides academic achievements, some faculty members have honor of being Educational administrators like Vice Chancellor, Controller of Examinations, Dean of the faculty, members of University Council and Syndicate, Presidents of Academic societies and members of National Committees.
The department of mathematics in coordination with the college teachers affiliated to Jammu University, created the Jammu Mathematical Society in 1990. Apart from conducting the Annual conference of the Jammu Mathematical Society, it has annually conducted National Seminars and Symposiums. It also conducts Alka Memorial Competitions for College and Postgraduate students of mathematics and the one-day student conference on an annual basis. Also to improve the school education the department conducts the regional Mathematical Olympiad, annually.
To improve the academic excellence and interaction, several well known mathematicians have been invited under visiting Professors Programme.
The department has also conducted several refresher courses for college and university teachers.
